[Baseball] Bright leads SXU past Trinity Christian, 5-4

Palos Heights, Ill. – Senior outfielder Griffin Bright (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) came through in the clutch with a two-out, two-run single to give Saint Xavier University baseball (27-22, 16-12 CCAC) a 5-4 lead in the top of the 7th inning and would prove to be the game-winning hit as the Cougars were able to defeat Trinity Christian College (Ill.) Friday afternoon in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) contest in Palos Heights, Ill. in game one of their three-game series. Freshman pitcher Julian Vargas (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) earned the win (6-3) after tossing 8.0 innings and allowing 10 hits, four runs (all earned) and two strikeouts. Junior pitcher Will Hines (Willowbrook, Ill./Elgin CC/Willowbrook) closed the door in the ninth, allowing one base runner via a walk, to pick up his team-leading eighth save.
