Ryan Miller to Retire at Season’s End
After 18 triumphant seasons in the NHL, Ryan Miller announced that he plans on retiring at the end of this season. Miller spent the bulk of his career with the Buffalo Sabres, making stops in St. Louis and Vancouver before wrapping things up in Anaheim.
Miller will retire with the most wins by an American-born goalie in NHL history, part of a much longer list of accomplishments. Miller was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, where he backstopped the USA to a silver medal. He’s a four-time all-star and won the Vezina Trophy as the best goalie in the NHL in 2010. That dominance is also reflected in Miller’s advanced metrics, as he hangs up his skates with a Goalie Point Share of 151.5, as per Hockey-Reference.
The Ducks only have six games remaining this season, with their last home game scheduled for May 1. Expect Miller to get one last kick at the can before the Ducks’ season comes to an end.
Anaheim was eliminated from playoff contention but can still embrace the role of spoiler, with games against the Los Angeles Kings and St. Louis Blues remaining on their schedule. The Blues are -750, and the Kings are +1300 to move onto the post-season at FanDuel Sportsbook.
