Domingo German likely fifth starter for Yankees
Domingo German is the likely fifth starter for the Yankees to open the season. The Yankees on Friday optioned Deivi Garcia to Triple-A, clearing the path for German to start for the Yankees. German has outpitched Garcia during spring training as he has thrown nine scoreless innings with 13 strikeouts and only one free pass. Garcia had allowed seven runs and walked eight batters in 14 innings. The decision was made for the Yankees just by following the numbers.
Some thought that the Yankees would make German earn the right to be with the big club by pitching in Triple-A after being suspended for all of last season due to violating MLB’s domestic abuse policy. German also sent out several tweets this offseason that can only be described as concerning and made many in the game worried about his mental state.
When German last pitched for the Yankees in 2019, he went 18-4 with a 4.03 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 143 IP. He also struck out 153 batters and only walked 39.
The Yankees are one of the favorites to represent in the American League in the World Series this season. They have an over/under win total of 95.5. They are -220 to win the AL East, +230 to win the AL, and +550 to win the World Series.
