Seahawks Decline to Place Franchise Tag on RB Chris Carson

0 20

The Seattle Seahawks have opted not to place the franchise tag on running back Chris Carson. Carson will become a free agent after four seasons with the Seahawks. Running backs often get the short end of the stick as teams tend not to prioritize them given the position’s wear and tear.

In 2018 and 2019, Carson posted back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons. Last year, he was limited to 12 games due to injuries and finished with 681 rush yards and five touchdowns. However, his 4.8 rushing yards per attempt suggests that he can still be an effective ball carrier. His franchise number would have been about $8.6 million, but at 26, he’ll have the chance to negotiate a longer-term contract.

Carson averaged 12.6 fantasy points per game this season. He’s averaged 11.7 fantasy points per game throughout his NFL career.

There’s no question that the Seahawks got their money’s worth and then some after selecting him in the seventh round with the 249th overall pick in the draft.
