[Women's Basketball] Rio women outgun Point Park
Rio Grande Sports Information
RIO GRANDE, Ohio - After watching his team drop 39 points in the opening quarter of Saturday afternoon's showdown with Point Park University, there was no way that University of Rio Grande women's basketball head coach David Smalley could've envisioned sweating bullets in the game's closing seconds.
Then again, there are lots of things these days that aren't the way they should seem to be.
Smalley's RedStorm coughed up a 24-point first half lead, then regained the advantage in the closing seconds and held on at the end for a wild 108-106 win over the Pioneers at the Newt Oliver Arena.
Rio Grande won for the fifth straight time and the ninth time in its last 10 outings, improving its season mark to 12-7.
Point Park slipped to 2-3 with the loss.
