[Cheer & Dance] Cheer and Dance Travel to Seward

0 33

Doane Cheer and Dance competed at the Concordia Invitational on Saturday morning in snowy Seward. The Tiger cheer team brought home a fourth place finish while the dance team took fifth.

In the Cheer competition, Doane posted a team score of 59.56. Midland won the event with a 69.53 while Concordia took second and Hastings finished third. Northwestern and Peru State rounded out the team standings.

The Tigers did not score as well in some categories that had been a strength earlier this year such as choreography, showmanship/general impression, and overall execution, where the team saw about a five-point difference from earlier performances. The team did see an improvement in the tumbling categories.

The Dance competition saw the Tigers post a score of 63.7 on the morning. Midland claimed the team title with an 86.36 followed by Concordia, Hastings, and Saint Mary. Finishing behind the Tigers were Dordt, Northwestern, and Peru State.

The team was around their season average due to the deduction they take by not meeting the minimum number of competitors. The Tigers were around a 70-point average prior to the deductions while using a slightly different routine on Saturday. Team Turn, Team Leap, and Jazz Technique were some of the team's best scored categories.

Next on the schedule for both teams is a trip to Hastings for a dual with the Broncos on February 17.
