0 11

Doane Volleyball returned to the court after a 17-day layoff and fell to Briar Cliff on Saturday in four sets. Game scores were 25-11, 25-21, 18-25, and 25-15, in the Chargers' favor.

Several Tigers saw their first varsity action of the season as Doane was still without several starters. A few other Tiger players were playing positions they haven't played in a couple of years.

Kennedy Scheele (JR/Plymouth, Neb.) paced the Tigers with 13 kills on the day to go with four ace serves. Halle Pribyl (FR/Western, Neb.) picked up her first varsity collegiate kill in the match and ended with six for the Tigers. The attack was set-up by Katie Ellard (SR/Ogallala, Neb.), who has been the team's libero in the previous seven matches, and Anna Sluka (FR/Milligan, Neb.), who was getting her first varsity action. Ellard dished out 14 assists while Sluka had 12.

MacKenzie Brandl (SR/Stanton, Neb.) made her debut at the libero position and finished with a career-high 23 digs. Joslyn Crow (JR/Hershey, Neb.) matched a career-high with 15 digs. Doane had two team blocks in the match, Gabby Menghini (JR/North Platte, Neb.) on a solo block while Simonie Mendenhall (SO/Clancy, Mont.) and Georgia Elliott (SO/Coldstream, B.C.) teamed up a block.

Briar Cliff was led by Grace Hanno and Abbie Ericson with 13 kills apiece. Madilyn Wagaman dished out 20 assists. The Chargers had 11.0 team blocks, led by Sami Wasmund with seven total blocks.

Doane travels to Iowa next weekend for the next action. They face Northwestern on October 16 and Dordt on October 17.
