REPORT: 2021 Cubs Convention Canceled

0 8

Well, this is shitty news for fans who look forward to the Cubs convention every year. Yet, despite baseball being back, kind of, there is still a pandemic happening and with no crystal ball at anyone’s disposal the 2021 Cubs convention has been canceled amid COVID-19 concerns.

The Chicago Tribune reported the cancelation Friday afternoon.

The event was scheduled for Jan. 15-17, at the Sheraton Grand Chicago, host of the Cubs convention for the past eight years.

Cubs spokesman Julian Green said the team could offer virtual events similar to the ones they’ve had with season ticket holders that have featured Theo Epstein, Jed Hoyer and Tom Ricketts.

As for the 2020 season, the Cubs remain hopeful to welcome back fans at Wrigley Field even if it is at a limited capacity.

Green said the Cubs hope to “welcome a portion of fans back into the ballpark” at some point in 2020, but admitted it would be “challenging” in this environment. The 2021 schedule has been released, but the Cubs haven’t announced when ticket packages would need to be renewed.
“We would love to be able to preserve some value for season-ticket holders this season before we start talking about renewals for next season,” he said.

The Cubs begin the regular season July 24, against the Brewers at Wrigley Field.
