[Women's Track & Field] Lady Bearcats Place Third at RSC Indoor Championship

The Brescia women's track and field team placed third in the River States Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship on Friday, February 7 in Tiffin, Ohio -- with five Bearcats earning All-Conference recognition.

On the track, the meet opened up with the 4x800m relay team of Abagale Huelsman (FR, Fort Branch, Ind.), Raegan Halley (FR, McLeansboro, Ill.), Mckenzie Severs (FR, Hawesville, Ky.), and Marianne Glaziner (FR, Terre Haute, Ind.) finishing the race in fourth placing, picking up five points for Brescia.

In field events, Madison Hopkins (SO, Sardina, Ohio) won long jump with a distance of 4.93m, scoring ten points for the Bearcats and picking up her first All-Conference performance of the meet. Kassi Gilbert (SR, Lebanon Junction, Ky.) and Mallory Toler (SO, Rockport, Ind.) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, with distances of 4.63m and 4.62m, gaining an additional combined five points for the team.

In pole vault, Rachel Frey (SO, Vincennes, Ind.) finished third clearing a height of 2.45m and earning her second consecutive spot on the indoor All-Conference team. In throwing events, Jonce Caldwell (FR, Paducah, Ky.) threw 9.48m in weight throw, placing 12.

Back on the track, Madeline Jones (JR, Mt. Carmel, Ill.) ran a strategic race in the 5,000m, completing the distance in 21:15 and placing third -- earning her first track & field All-Conference placement.

Mikayla Chinn (JR, Newburgh, Ind.) picked up the win in shot put, throwing 11.47m and earning a spot on the All-Conference team. Caldwell, Jordan Blemker (SR, Oakland City, Ind.), and Brittany Lear (JR, Madisonville, Ky.) also competed, placing 11, 12, and 17 respectively.

Back on the track, Halley ran the mile in 6:13 -- a six second PR-- finishing in tenth. Severs also competed in the mile, finishing in 13 place.

In high jump, Hopkins had her second All-Conference performance of the meet, clearing 1.40m and placing third. Hopkins also placed sixth in the 60m dash finals, sprinting the distance in 8.51 seconds and gaining three points for the Bearcats.

Severs and Kaitlyn Alvey (FR, Owensboro, Ky.) placed ninth and tenth in the 600m, running 2:06.72 and 2:06.90, respectively. Immediately after the 600, Glaziner ran the 800m in 2:49.13, which placed her fourth in the meet. Next, Halley ran the 1,000m in 3:49.46 and placed sixth.

The next event on the track was the 200m dash, which Breanna Chester (SO, Henderson, Ky.) and Dashia Shanklin (SO, Bowling Green, Ky.) placed 12 and 16 in, respectively.

In the 3,000m, Huelsman stuck with the lead pack long enough to run a PR of 11:56.19 and place third -- earning the first All-Conference recognition of her young collegiate career. Jones also scored in the 3k, running 12:25.34 and finishing seventh.

In the 4x400m relay, Severs, Chester, Alvey, and Glaziner finished sixth, picking up three points for Brescia.

In the final race of the meet, the distance medley relay team of Jones, Toler, Halley, and Huelsman finished in fifth, picking up four points for the Bearcats.

The women's track and field team will be back in action on February 15 at the DePauw University Invitational.
