Cal Crim was Cincinnati’s super-cop – part Batman, part Sherlock Holmes. He was so popular that in 1901, when wounded in a shootout with “Foley the Goat,” the citizens of Cincinnati chipped in to pay off his mortgage. Crim collared the murderers of poor Pearl Bryan and the Turkey King of Winchester, Kentucky. And it was Crim who unraveled the plot behind the 1919 Black Sox scandal. In celebration of the 100th anniversary of one of the single most infamous events in sports history, join us as renowned local historian Greg Hand, regular contributor to Cincinnati Magazine and WCPO-TV’s “Cincy Lifestyle” show, discusses the events that led to the unraveling of the Black Sox’s plot to throw the 1919 World Series to the Cincinnati Reds.
