Mariners and Cardinals still go to work, earn holiday pay

The Mariners will start with an opener again today, giving the ball to Matt Carasiti before turning things over to Mike Leake, whose fans have demanded an encore to yesterday’s performance. Oh, is that not happening? That’s too bad. Carasiti has pitched just four innings this season, and gave up his first run of the year, a solo home run, Tuesday night against these very Cardinals. Tommy Milone will take things over from there and will hope to continue the success he experienced during his last outing, in which he kept the Houston Astros scoreless through five innings, giving up three hits and one walk while striking out two.

The Cardinals will start Michael Wacha who, after a fairly disastrous six-week stretch earlier in the season, has bounced back a bit in June. In his last start he threw 7 innings, giving up six hits and walking just one. He gave up two runs, each on a solo home run. Perhaps the Mariners, who enjoy hitting solo home runs, will take him up on a few of their own today.

What better way to spend the 4th of July than watching a team that has already gained independence from the playoff race play against a team trying hard to accomplish the same?
