[Women's Soccer] Reitz scores twice as Bees move winning streak to nine

0 25

The shutout streak may have come to an end, but SAU continued its winning ways with a 2-1 home victory over Cardinal Stritch Saturday afternoon.

Katie Reitz scored both goals as the Bees set a program record with their ninth straight win to move to 10-1 overall and 5-0 in the conference.

SAU was out-shot 14-8 but Molly McLaughlin was up to the challenge, finishing with six saves, three in each half.

Reitz got the Bees off to a fast start. Tori Timerman's cross into the box from the left side was finished by Reitz in the 10th minute for a 1-0 lead.

Cardinal Stritch (8-3, 4-2 CCAC) answered in the 12th minute. The Wolves' goal was the first allowed by the Bees after four straight shutouts.

The match remained tied midway into the second half. That's when Erin Smothers connected with Reitz, who beat the CSU keeper for her ninth goal of the season, to give SAU a 2-1 lead. The goal was also her second game winner of the year.

Along with keeping the now school-record winning streak alive, the victory also sets up a big match Saturday when St. Ambrose hosts No. 21 Trinity Christian (13-0, 6-0 CCAC). The battle of the remaining conference unbeatens will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at St. Vincent's.
