[Men's Volleyball] Vikings Sweep Graceland 3-0, Clinch Regular Season Conference Title

Des Moines, Iowa – For the third-straight season, Grand View secured the Heart of America Athletic Conference regular-season championship in men's volleyball after posting a 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-15) win over Graceland. The Vikings finished the regular season with a 17-4 record and a 10-0 record in the conference. Both the men's volleyball team and the women's volleyball team for Grand View went undefeated in the conference and grasped the conference title this year.

The Vikings and the Yellowjackets have met two times before last night and Grand View won both of those matches 3-0. The second-ranked Vikings were dominant winning the first set by 12 points, the second set by six points, and the third set by ten points.

Set One: Grand View University 25 | Graceland University 13

The teams were tight in the first five points of the game until a Raphael Seabra (JR/Curitiba, Brazil) kill broke the five-all tie and sparked an eight-point streak for the Vikings. From that moment, the Vikings did not allow the Yellowjackets to come within eight points. Grand View finished the set with a 25-13 victory and 11 team kills. The Yellowjackets had eight team kills.

Set Two: Grand View University 25 | Graceland University 19

The Vikings stayed hot and maintained a lead throughout the second set. Grand View finished set two with a 25-19 victory. The Vikings recorded 13 team kills for a .478 hitting percentage while the Yellowjackets recorded ten kills for a .227 hitting percentage.

Set Three: Grand View University 25 | Graceland University 15

Grand View kept the energy up and finished the match with a 25-15 victory in the third set, clinching the 3-0 sweep on senior night. The Vikings recorded 11 team kills for a dominating .733 hitting percentage. The Yellowjackets recorded ten team kills for a.174 hitting percentage.

Players of Notice…

Tim Johnson led the offense with 15 kills and a .882 hitting percentage. The defense was led by John Chamone (SO/Miami Beach, FL) and Felix Chapman (SO/San Jose De Las Lajas, Cuba) with five digs apiece. Alfredo Batista (SR/Bayamon, Puerto Rico) recorded 25 assists on the night.
