[Softball] Hornets Comeback Spoiled by Late CSU Runs
FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL- The Hornet softball team took a step in the right direction today as they almost got past the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch University. HSSU dropped the game 7-3 and moved to 0-3 for the season.
CSU kicked things off in the top of the 1st when Emily Parks scored on a stolen base. Cindy Garces would score after an error on HSSU to take a 2-0 lead.
The Wolves would add one more run in the top of the 2nd and two more runs in the top of the 3rd to extend their lead to 5-0.
Harris-Stowe came back in the bottom of the 5th inning with three runs of their own.
With Cassidy Williams (JR/Olive Branch, MS) and Mallory Pappert (SR/Affton, MO) on first and second, respectively, Sophia Chamberlain (JR/Bakersfield, CA) hit a rocket into right-center field to bring Pappert home. The very next batter, Courtney Norris (SR/St. Louis, Missouri), tripled down the right field line to bring Cassidy Williams and Sophia Chamberlain across the plate to cut their deficit to 5-3.
Cardinal Stritch secured their 7-3 win with two more runs in the top of the 7th inning.
Sophia Chamberlain pitched a complete game for the Hornets going 7.0 innings with 5 strikeouts.
HSSU will be back in action on Wednesday when they get back to AMC play and host Saint Louis College of Pharmacy. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Moody Park.
