[Men's Wrestling] Jacque Advances to the Round of 16
Williamson 197 pounder Austin Jacque (SR/Media, PA) had to wait a while to finally get the chance to wrestle on Thursday in the opening round of the2018 National Collegiate Wrestling Championships. The senior received a first round bye so while fellow Williamson wrestler Zakaria Elfernani (FR/Newtown Square, PA) had already wrestled twice on the day, Jacque was still waiting for his first opportunity to hit the mat.
Once he finally was able to get to wrestle, Jacque made the most of it, as he pinned Anthony Alvarez from the University of Connecticut in the first period to advance to the round of 16 later tonight. Jacque looked solid from the start as he scored early and then took advantage of a mistake by Alvarez to pin him in under two minutes.
Jacque, who fell one win short of All-American status two years ago after missing last year with an injury, has a tough opponent in the next round. He next faces Jack Dahlgren from Grays Harbor College. A win in that match, followed by a win in the Round of 8, would guarantee him of All-American status.
Updates will be made available at www.williamsonathletics as they are available.
