[Volleyball] Riffel, Wells, and Reid Named to All-KCAC Volleyball Teams
WICHITA, Kan. – The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference is pleased to announce the 2017 Volleyball All-Conference award winners as voted on by the conference head volleyball coaches. Three Sterling College Lady Warriors were recognized: Chelsey Riffel (JR/Sterling, Kan.) was named First Team All-KCAC, Mikaela Wells (JR/Haven, Kan.) was named Second Team All-KCAC, and Alexandra Reid (JR/Phoenix, Ariz.) was named Third Team All-KCAC. Sterling finished the season with an overall record of 15-18 and a KCAC record of 10-12, reaching the KCAC Tournament.
Chelsey Riffel had a strong junior season for the Lady Warriors finishing with a total of 493 kills, breaking the single-season record for kills for Sterling and ranking 3rd in the KCAC this season. She finished the season with a .198 attack percentage, while also collecting 149 digs, 33 blocks, four assists and two aces. She set a new career high with a match total of 27 kills against Oklahoma Wesleyan this season. Riffel is currently 3rd All-Time for Kills in Sterling College Volleyball with a total 1,091.
Mikaela Wells continued her successful Lady Warrior career, as she led Sterling with 1094 assists, the 7th best single season total in Sterling College Volleyball history and 3rd in the KCAC this season. Wells currently ranks her 5th All-Time for Assists in Sterling College Volleyball. Along with her impressive setting numbers for the Lady Warriors, Wells finished the year with 271 digs, 73 kills, 55 blocks, and 31 aces for Sterling.
Alexandra Reid had an excellent season defensively for Sterling, finishing with a total of 599 digs this season for the Lady Warriors, the 4th best single season total in Sterling College Volleyball history and the 5th in the KCAC this season. She also set a new career high of 35 digs against Friends this season. Reid currently ranks 3rd All-Time for Digs in Sterling College Volleyball. Reid also added 36 assists, 36 aces, and nine kills this season for the Lady Warriors.
Ottawa University and Kansas Wesleyan University are the KCAC regular season champions with 19-3 conference records.
Tabor's Amy Horner was named Player of the Year, Ottawa's Adrianna Skipper earned Setter of the Year for the second-straight year, and Andrea Novakovic of Oklahoma Wesleyan was named Libero of the Year. Oklahoma Wesleyan's Kenadee Valdez was named Freshman of the Year, while Ottawa head coach Melissa Blessington was named Coach of the Year for the third consecutive year by her peers. Ottawa assistant coach Tom Sorensen was named Assistant Coach of the Year for the second-straight season.
