[Women's Soccer] Women's Soccer Falcons Set to Host York Saturday in KCAC Quarterfinals
WICHITA – For the second straight season, but only the second time since 2010, the Friends University Women's Soccer Falcons will host a KCAC postseason tournament match.
The Falcons enter the tourney as the fourth seed and will host fifth-seeded York College (Neb.) Saturday afternoon (Nov. 4) at 3 pm at Adair-Austin Stadium.
Friends and York tied for fourth in the league with identical 6-4-1 marks, but the Falcons receive the fourth seed by virtue of a 2-1 victory at York earlier this season (Oct. 18).
"When you get to this point of the season, its win or go home and our players understand that," Friends head coach Brent Hobson said.
"One of our preseason goals was to make sure we advance in the conference tournament, so we are excited about the opportunity to play. It's definitely a plus that we get to play that first round game at home."
With a victory, the Falcons would square off against the winner of top-seed and No. 12-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University and eighth-seeded University of Saint Mary in the semifinals next Wednesday night (Nov. 8) at the campus of the higher seed.
Jazelle Gonzalez (JR/Dallas, Texas) has scored a team-high nine goals this season for Friends and is tied for the team-lead with four assists. Dalia Fernandez (SR/Wichita, Kan.) has scored six goals and also has four assists.
Goalkeeper Lauren Ferguson (SO/Holt, Mo.) has done a solid job in the net, posting a 0.93 goals-against-average with 38 saves.
