Giants win season finale on Sandoval’s walkoff homer
From the early months of 2017, when it became clear the Giants' season was going down in flame, everyone knew the final out of Game 162 would mix a healthy dose of relief with the usual sadness that baseball was over for the year. But the Giants left everyone smiling. With the final swing of the season, Pablo Sandoval homered with one out in the ninth inning off Phil Maton to give the Giants a 5-4 victory, allowing this woebegone team and its fans a taste of victory going into the longer winter. Still, for the first time since 1984, the Giants went home burdened with at least a share of the worst record in the majors at 64-98, the second-worst in franchise history.
