Simon, who died Tuesday of natural causes at 51 years old, saw his hard work lead to more prestigious assignments. In 2021, he umpired the Division III College World Series in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for the first time.
He also started to move beyond the local college games to umpire in the Atlantic Coast Conference and Conference USA.
