In today's Formula 1, the discernible sidewall colour of Pirelli's tyres identifies the manufacturer's specific compound.
Back in 1986 however, when the Italian company supplied Benetton with its products, the only reason it lavishly sprayed its tyres was to add to the Italian outfit's visual appeal.
We'll admit we prefer the more discrete markings of today than thise sen here on Gerhard Berger's Benetton-BMW 186 at Detroit.
