[Men's Volleyball] No. 1 Grand View Takes Down No. 2 Missouri Baptist 3-2

Des Moines, IA – No. 1 Grand View takes down No. 2 Missouri Baptist 3-2 on the second day of the annual Molten Invitational.

Grand View started strong and came out victorious in the first set, dropped the next two sets, and then turned around to beat Missouri Baptist in the last two sets. In the past two weeks, Grand View has defeated No. 2 Missouri Baptist University, No. 3 Park University, No. 4 Ottawa University, and No. 5 Culver-Stockton College.

Set One: Grand View University 26 | Missouri Baptist University 24

The Vikings and the Spartans competed in a tight first set with the largest spread only being five. Grand View broke the 24-all tie to win the set 26-24. GVU collected eight kills while MBU collected 13 kills.

Set Two: Grand View University 17 | Missouri Baptist University 25

Set two was another tight battle until mid-game when the Spartans went on a six-point streak and eventually won the set 25-17. The Vikings finished with a .444 hitting percentage and the Spartans finished with a .654 hitting percentage.

Set Three: Grand View University 24 | Missouri Baptist University 26

The Vikings started out with a six-point lead, but the Spartans slowly caught up and took the win 26-24. Grand View recorded eight team kills and three blocks.

Set Four: Grand View University 25 | Missouri Baptist University 18

Grand View jumped to a 7-1 lead right off the bat and finished the game with a 25-18 victory to send the game into the fifth set. GVU recorded 11 kills with a .208 hitting percentage while MBU only recorded 9 kills and a .000 hitting percentage.

Set Five: Grand View University 17 | Missouri Baptist University 15

Tim Johnson broke the 12-all tie on a dominating kill, but MBU fought back to tie it again at 14. The Vikings finished the game with a 17-15 victory from a block between Devin Maluwelmeng (SR/Toto, Guam) and Felix Chapman (SO/San Jose De Las Lajas, Cuba). Grand View recorded 10 kills with a .692 hitting percentage while Missouri Baptist recorded eight kills with a .235 hitting percentage.

Players of Notice…

Tim Johnson led the offense with 15 kills and a .462 hitting percentage. Alfredo Batista (SR/Bayamon, Puerto Rico) had 30 assists and 11 digs in the game.
