‘Taekwondo is a transformative sport, safe for every age’

0 4

“Slowly, you build into something you have never imagined yourself doing…”

In this video, athletic brand Cyprus Another Angle interviews the island’s Taekwondo multiple national champion and third world champion, Andreas Stylianou.

Among the Korean martial art teacher’s key takeaways, is the fact that there is no age restriction in training in Taekwondo – students can begin even in their sixties or seventies, or as early in years as seven.

The benefits of Taekwondo, beyond strength and fitness, include enhanced mental health, greater self-control and a sense of respect towards others.

Meanwhile, fears over personal safety also need not hold would-be practitioners back, maintains Stylianou.

“People should not fear doing martial arts. They will see kicking and falling, but they should not be afraid of that, because everyone is their own person. They might not choose to fight. If you do not choose to fight, you won’t fight. There are so many things for you to learn.”
