Grey day

0 20

Hello Friends,

It was a bitterly cold 12 C this morning when I stopped at Dee Why to grab a snap or two of the conditions. The knee-to-waist-high sets were weakly rideable, the breeze was SW and the water was a good 6 degrees warmer than the air. On the other hand it was grey and raining steadily too – which is pretty much what we can expect from the weather through the weekend and into Monday.
As of  1130 the swell was a shade under the 2 metre mark from the dead south at close to 11 seconds. All the models show it gradually building to a peak in the 3+ metre range from the SE on Sunday-Monday. The problem is that the wind will be southerly from tomorrow and strongly SE by Saturday and swell period will drop into the sub-10 second range. By Sunday the more hopeful models show swell going east – but with south wind. Then Monday we could see the last of the wet stuff for a few days as the swell stays east, periods stretch out into the 11-12 second power zone and the wind swings to the SW. Again, it’s the models, I know… but Tue-Fri next week could be solid east with offshores and more than guest appearances of the sun… it’s a lovely dream…
Stay warm and dry folks!

Weather Situation

A low pressure system will cross the state’s north on Wednesday before heading offshore. A trough is forecast to brush the coast in the wake of the low, whipping fresh and gusty southerly winds. The trough will then deepen to a complex coastal low pressure system off the north coast during the weekend, bringing vigorous south to southeasterly winds and large powerful waves along the northern and central parts of the coast, before heading offshore by early next week.
