Cold, blowy and showery start

0 9

Hello Friends,

Although the BoM’s call is for southerly wind today, as of 0800 it was still SW. Mind you the gusts were into the 30 kt range and the air temp at RealSurf HQ was 10 C (which with the wind, feels like 8 C). The skies were grey and a light rain was spattering against the south-facing windows.

Meanwhile, out at sea the swell has spiked up pretty dramatically. Yesterday evening it was around the 1.5 metre mark, but by 0700 the MHL buoy showed 4 metres at 9 seconds from just off dead south. Basically the more protected the location the smaller the waves.

I’ll grab a pic later this morning when I’m out and about, but from a look at the cams, the swell energy is mostly staying out at sea and the clean places were maybe shoulder high on sets. The wind’s due to go back to the SW this evening and the swell will be coming off its peak. By tomorrow the south magnets could be looking good. And, with any luck we’ll still have fun size surf on Friday.

I’ll try to get a pic up by 11-ish.

Go well!

Weather Situation

A cold front will continue crossing the central and northern coastal waters today, whipping strong to gale-force southerly winds along the coast and large powerful waves in its wake. Winds and surf conditions will gradually ease later in the week as a high pressure system drifts across the state later this week. Then a series of fronts are forecast to cross the coastal waters during the weekend.
