Wild and woolly
Hello Friends,
Lots of chaotic energy piling into the beaches this morning, but as the pictures show, it’s not exactly looking approachable. Wind at 0730 was 10-14 kts from the SE and as of 0500, the MHL buoy was seeing 2.8 metres of 8-9 seconds from the E to NE. The models are showing it increasing to a peak of over 3 metres tomorrow. Wind is set to stay SE 15-20 kts through Friday and weather will be partly cloudy and occasionally showery.
Today looks like being a write-off at most places today and tomorrow, but maybe on Saturday we’ll get a slightly better alignment of the variables for the morning session. Maybe.
The long range models are showing showery and cloudy weather into mid-next week. Swell should stay above 1.5 metres, but the periods are expected to get shorter and the wind remains onshore from the E to SE. So not a stellar outlook, but with luck opportunities will present themselves here and there.
Go well with your day everyone!
Weather Situation
A series of high pressure systems passing to the south of the state extend a ridge along the southern and central coast whilst Tropical Cyclone Alfred (Category 2), currently 480 kilometres east of Gold Coast, is heading towards southeastern Queensland, making a coastal crossing in southern Queensland coast either late Thursday or early Friday. This will bring strengthening easterly winds, reaching gale force winds along the far north coast, and large powerful east to northeasterly swells for the rest of the week. Winds and surf conditions will gradually ease later Friday through the weekend as Alfred makes landfall and weakens while heading inland.
