Swell keeps on keeping on
Hello Friends,
More east in the swell this morning and still overhead on the bigger sets too. As expected, it’s come around to the ESE since yesterday morning and as of 0500 was 2.2 metres at 12 seconds. Dee Why and most other spots are definitely not suitable for beginners, but reasonably experienced riders should have fun because those extra seconds of period are dialling up the oomph factor. Plus, the tide is coming off the 0.7 m low. The tidal swing is only half a metre though. Wind was ESE 1-3 kts as of 0730. It’s set to pick up a bit into the 10 kt range as the day goes along, so expect the textured surface conditions to become more so.
The swell energy should gradually fade over the next day or so, but indications are that we’ll have surfable mornings into the weekend.
Yesterday I spent a couple of hours in the water at the point and for most of the time someone was shooting the waves with a drone. As a photographer I get why, but as a surfer it was annoying because the operator was often flying at an altitude of just 2-4 metres. This is illegal. According to the regulations, drones are never to be flown overhead of people at any altitude. They are never to be closer than 30 metres to people and are not to be flown in public spaces where people are gathered (eg the point). If anyone knows the operator, please tell them to stop breaking the law.
Have a top old day everyone!
