Wintery temps and leaden skies
Hello Friends,
As of 0500 the MHL buoy was seeing 4.2 metres of 8-second swell from the S-SSW. The energy levels shot up very quickly around midnight Friday, but as the pictures confirm, the brunt of the swell is heading away from us. As of 0630 the air temp at RealSurf HQ was just 10C, skies were dark grey and it was showering lightly. Wind was SW at 13-21 kts.
The only people I saw in the water were at the point – and they were struggling to get into the short period bumps. Pulling on a icy wetsuit in the carpark in 10C temps is not most surfers’ idea of fun, so my guess is that the crowds will be minimal this morning. Oh, and it’s going to get even less attractive once the wind comes around to the south and ramps into the 25-30 kt range. With showers too!
Tomorrow the Bureau tells us the wind will go SW and we’ll get some east component to the swell as the southerly one dials down. Could potentially be a day for experienced riders, but otherwise I’d be holding off until the front half of next week if I was an intermediate or beginner. From here it looks like mainly south swell with SW wind for the early right through to Friday.

Weather Situation
A cold front continues to move through central and northern coastal areas bring a fresh and gusty southerly change. A ridge extending from a slow-moving, strong high pressure system over the Bight will become dominant feature while a series of weaker cold fronts slip south, brushing only the far southern coastal regions. This pattern will maintain cooler southerly airstream through the next several days.
