Shoulder to head high

0 2

Hello Friends,

Despite a light NE breeze, surface conditions were still somewhat smooth at Dee Why as of 0900. Waves looked to be reasonably consistent too with sets in the shoulder plus range. The MHL buoy was detecting some very long period (18 seconds) energy from the south but typical swell heights at sea were 2 metres or so. When swell periods get out to 18 seconds it generally means quite long lulls between the sets. It also means that beach break options will be minimal because the long period stuff will just be shutting down. Points and deep reefs are the go. This is a ‘know your limits’ day just because that stuff is in the mix. Fit and experienced rider? You’re all good. Beginner? Unless you’re being guided by an instructor about where to paddle out, this is a good day to just watch.

If the rain lets up, I’ll try to take some shots later.

Weather Situation

A slow-moving high pressure system centred south of Tasmania is generating persistent onshore winds over the NSW coast. A coastal trough is expected to form on the weekend and a low pressure circulation may develop in the trough tonight or early Sunday, before moving away from the coast early in the new week.
