Grey and drizzly start to Saturday

0 24

Hello Friends,

You’d want to be pretty keen for a wave to bother paddling out this morning. Not only was the weather gloomy and raining lightly, but the dead south 8-sec 2.3 m wind swell was mostly missing the beaches. It looked to be weak and around the knee to maybe waist high mark (at the best exposures). Wind was coming lightly from the east, so surface conditions were reasonably clean. It’s set to pick up a bit and swing NE later. At the same time, the Bureau says the swell’s going to fade a little as well. Tide’s not helping either, as it was coming in to the 1.78 metre high at 1015. On a brighter note, water is up to a sub-tropical 24.

Outlook is for more cloudy weather tomorrow and slightly smaller and weaker surf conditions, but the wind could be light, so at least there’s that.

From the look of the swell models, we’re in for quiet surf week ahead. Both the ECMWF and GFS are predicting swell heights mainly in the sub-metre range and periods are predicted to be less than 10 seconds. The pick day for the coming week currently looks to be  Monday when at least the GFS model is showing bit of south swell and light wind for the early.  Beyond that, it’s all shaping to be pretty ho-hum.

Anyway, have a good one!

Weather Situation

A southerly change associated with a cold front is moving along the Hunter coast and will reach the Mid North Coast this evening. This change will weaken as it continues to move north on Saturday while a ridge of high pressure develops in it wake. On Sunday or Monday, a high pressure system is forecast to move to the Tasman Sea, maintaining a ridge along the coast.
