Full for the early

Not much happening at Dee Why for the morning sesh. Wind was coming around to the south and picking up and the 1.8 m tide just before 0800 was making the 2 m ENE 8-9 sec wind swell look very fat and full. There were only a handful of diehards in the water at Dee Why well north of the club. Beachwatch was reporting a water temp of 23C and rating water quality ‘pollution possible’ along the Dee Why stretch this morning.
At 0800 the wind was SSW 4-8 kts but by 0930 it had swung south and was pushing along at 13-19 kts. It should pick up a bit more, while at the same time we can expect a 2-3 metre south pulse to start filling in. By tomorrow morning it should be into the 2.5- 4 metre range and the Bureau’s hoisting a gale warning for south wind at 30-40 kts, along with a high chance of showers. Lovely.
By Friday the Bureau tells us we can expect 30-40 kts of southerly again but with – gulp – 5 metres of south swell energy. The swell models showing it staying big into the weekend but with much more favourable SW wind…

Weather Situation
A deep low off the northern New South Wales coast will be slow moving during today before drifting offshore and further south over the remainder of the week. Strong to gale force winds and large waves will be generated over all coastal waters. Uncertainty remains about the timing, position and strength of this system but there should be a gradual easing trend in the winds from the north later in the weekend.
