Mecum Auctions’ parade of classics coming to NRG April 4-6

College hoops fanatics have March Madness. Houston classic car lovers and collectors have the Mecum Auctions.

Whether you’re looking to buy something special, sell your prized 1964 Ford Mustang or Pontiac Tri-Power GTO or just enjoy surfing automotive nostalgia, you’ll want to scope out next week’s Mecum auctions online or in person.

Mecum’s April 4-6 auctions at NRG Center will feature more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles, highlighted by more than 50 cars from the Mario Sueiras collection.

Sueiras, a Guatemalan businessman and lifelong lover of automobiles, has enjoyed finding exquisite autos and restoring them to perfection — and prides himself on owning vehicles that are both unique and interesting while also oozing beauty and class. “Patience and absolute attention to detail has been a norm,” Sueiras said.

The cars he’s offering up in Houston include motoring classics from Germany, Italy, Britain, Japan and the United States. Just a few examples: a 1938 Lagonda LG6; 1953 Nash-Healy Le Mans Roadster that some tout as America’s first authentic sports car; a steel-body 1977 Ferrari targa-top 308 GTS; 1962 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider; 1965 Honda S600 convertible and a 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL roadster.

Mecum’s eighth consecutive auction in the Bayou City is for buyers, sellers and spectators. Bidder registration is available online in advance for $100 ($200 after the auctions start), and includes admission for two people each auction day.

Advance general admission tickets are available online for $20 per person, per day. Once the auctions kick off, the entry charge increases to $30 at the door and online. Children 12 and younger are admitted free.
