Sooners Lead Temple At Halftime
Oklahoma's football team leads Temple 28-3 at halftime at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday.
Temple got the ball to start the game and had to punt after three downs.
Oklahoma then went 67 yards in 10 plays, getting two big gains on pass plays of 18 and 23 yards from John Mateer to Jaren Kanak, the last of which came on 3rd and 19.
The drive was finished by a three-yard touchdown run from Jovantae Barnes.
OU went for two on the conversion and Kanak passed to punter Jacob Ulrich to make it 8-0 with 9:36 left in the first quarter.
The Owls once again went three downs and punt, with David Stone making a tackle for a loss of three on 3rd and 1.
The Sooners marched into Temple territory and got a 52-yard field goal from Tate Sandell to take an 11-0 lead with 4:05 remaining in the first quarter.
Temple picked up a first down on their ensuing possession but had to punt.
The Sooners responded with a 12-play, 89-yard drive, capped by a six-yard touchdown run by Tory Blaylock to put OU up 18-0 with 12:11 left in the second quarter.
On the ensuing kickoff, Temple stepped out of bounds at the one-yard line, and gained just six yards in three snaps before punting.
Oklahoma took over at the Temple 45 and took just four plays to score.
Blaylock ran it in from 18 yards out to give the Sooners a 25-0 lead with 10:05 left in the first half.
After an exchange of punts, OU's next possession ended on one play, as Mateer's pass to Keontez Lewis was intercepted by Ty Davis at the OU 13-yard line.
The Sooner defense held and Temple settled for a 34-yard field goal by Carl Hardin to trim OU's lead to 25-3 with 2:33 to play in the second quarter.
Oklahoma responded with their own scoring drive, as Sandell kicked a 29-yard field goal with 27 seconds left in the first half to make it 28-3.
This is the fourth meeting between the two schools and the first in Philadelphia since 1942.
OU leads the series 2-1.
