Among the most notable moves was the release of wide receiver John Jackson. If you watched the full preseason game against the Dolphins on Sunday (and if you did, hats off to you), you’ll likely remember Jackson’s wide open drop on first down late in the game, that could have put the Bears in field goal range to win it.
Jackson, reportedly one of Caleb Williams closest friends, spent much of last season bouncing between the practice squad and the active roster. He was viewed as a familiar face to help ease Williams into his rookie year. However, after a shaky camp/preseason game marked by a couple drops, his release wasn’t surprising.
Could this disappoint Williams? Maybe slightly. But the NFL is a business, and Williams likely understands that. There’s still a chance Jackson could return later if injuries open a roster spot or he’s brought back to the practice squad.
