'Catfish in driveway' as Hurricane Debby slams Florida; video

A St. Petersburg, Fla., resident on Sunday shared footage showing catfish floundering in his yard during extensive flooding caused by Hurricane Debby.

“Catfish in my driveway as streets turn into rivers!” Dan Ciarletta described via X.

As of Monday morning, Hurricane Debby hade made landfall along the Gulf Coast and was causing extensive flooding that seemed to flush fish from area waterways. (After making landfall, Debby was downgraded to a tropical storm.)

Ciarletta posted two videos showing catfish wriggling in shallow water outside his home. The accompanying video prompted social media users to chime in.

“Help them. Fill the bathtub. Find a plastic container,” one follower implored.

To which Ciarletta replied: “I successfully herded two back to the street (and presumably back to a storm drain). “One I tried to get into a bucket, but I lost it. May still be in the backyard, which is swamped.”

In the second video, a catfish is shown struggling to swim on a flooded pathway in Ciarletta’s yard.

Ciarletta assumed that the catfish were flushed onto his neighborhood streets via flooded storm drains.
