Yankees catcher Jose Trevino picked off a runner after alertedly noticing he was distracted by the umpire

0 4

Though the White Sox have been playing better baseball as of late, they’re still MLB’s worst team for a reason. They find ways to make mistakes that good teams simply do not make.

On Sunday, we saw what happens when White Sox players lose focus on the base path.

With Zach Remillard on third base in the second inning and two outs, Yankees catcher Jose Trevino appealed a check swing to first base umpire Tripp Gibson. And without really thinking much about Trevino, Remillard stared towards first base to see Gibson’s call. That ended up being just what Trevino was hoping for.

Upon noticing that Remillard was looking over towards first instead of returning to the bag, Trevino fired a pick-off attempt to third and caught Remillard napping to end the inning.

That’s just some elite defensive catching combined with atrocious base running. It ended up being a huge mistake too as the Yankees tied the game up in the following half inning.

Remillard will know to keep his eyes on the baseball after that one.
