Ghost of Tsushima movie secures writer Takashi Doscher

After several months of hearing nothing about the Ghost of Tsushima movie, there are finally more details regarding who’s penning the script.

A Deadline report claims that Takashi Doscher will write the big-screen video game adaptation from Sony Pictures. Previous screenwriting credits from Doscher include films such as Only and Still. Since the project has only just now found its writer, it’s clear that production is still in the early phases. Aside from Doscher, the only other big-name attached thus far is director Chad Stahelski — best known for directing John Wick.

The Ghost of Tsushima movie is one of several adaptations in the works at Sony Pictures, including HBO’s The Last of Us, the God of War TV series, and the recent live-action Uncharted film starring Tom Holland.

In January, developer Sucker Punch announced that Ghost of Tsushima surpassed the 8 million copies sold milestone. That’s an incredible achievement for any game series, but especially a totally new IP — even if it’s not all that historically accurate.

Video game film and television adaptations are in a more reputable spot than ever. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 shattered records over the weekend, and Arcane: League of Legends recently won 9 trophies at the Annie Awards.
