World Series: Mattress Mack keeps betting more money on the Astros

By now you’ve likely heard of Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, the Houston businessman who may be on the hook for $15 million in refunds if his beloved Astros come back to win the 2019 World Series.

McIngvale, owner of Gallery Furniture, offered customers refunds of up to $3,000 for the third consecutive year if the Astros go on to win a title. In 2017, when the Astros defeated the Dodgers in a thrilling 7-game series, Mattress Mack lost $13 million in sales on the promotion.

Mattress Mack has frequently placed bets on the Astros to offset his potential losses, and he’s taken his wagers to a new level in 2019. McIngvale currently has more than $10 million riding on the outcome of the World Series at various sportsbooks across the country, and he put even more money on the Astros on Friday before Game 3.

According to Darren Rovell, McIngvale bet more than $1 million on the Astros in New Jersey on Friday, including a $500,000 bet on the Astros to win Game 3 at -140. Per Action Network, McIngvale could win a total of more than $18 million if all his bets cash out. Even if they don’t, he’ll avoid having to hand out millions in refunds.
