Jon Jones accepts plea deal in strip club case

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones accepted a plea deal to close out a court case in New Mexico after an alleged incident took place at a strip club back in April.

Jones pled no contest, which is not regarded as an admission of guilt, to one misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. The case will be dismissed completely in 90 days assuming Jones can stay out of any further trouble with the law during that time.

The charges against Jones originally started as an alleged battery of a waitress at a local strip club in Albuquerque, N.M., who accused the light heavyweight champion of assaulting her during a visit to the establishment earlier this year.

The victim claimed Jones put her in a choke hold and eventually touched her inappropriately before leaving the club. Jones denied all wrongdoing and pled not guilty after charges were filed against him.

In the end, prosecutors in the case struggled to find any corroborating witnesses and ultimately the accuser in the case stopped cooperating.

“It was determined there was not enough evidence to proceed with the petty misdemeanor charge of battery under New Mexico state law,” Michael Patrick, a spokesman for the district attorney, said in a statement to the Albuquerque Journal.

As part of the plea agreement, Jones agreed to stay out of any further legal trouble for the next 90 days as well as avoiding the strip club where the alleged incident took place.
