Michael Vick takes odd jab at Cam Newton's outfits: 'This is not a fashion show'

0 4

Cam Newton is set to miss his second straight game (and potentially more) with a foot injury, but the talking heads are still finding ways to criticize the Panthers quarterback.

And, of course, it has nothing to do with football.

During Monday’s edition of Speak For Yourself on FS1, Jason Whitlock and Michael Vick both equated Newton’s unconventional game-day outfits to poor leadership qualities.

They had the following exchange:

Whitlock: “I’ve been on this campaign ever since Cam showed up with the scarf wrapped around his head. I didn’t like it from a leadership standpoint.”

Vick: “I didn’t like it.”

Whitlock: “He can’t lead!”

Vick: “You got everybody watching, Cam. Including your teammates. This is not a fashion show. This is football. Throw the suit on. The hats was cool — got away with that. But I mean, I respect Cam for what he does as a football player. I respect him because he loves fashion. But it’s a different demeanor, different approach you have to take as far as your appearance and everything, man. Everything plays a factor.”

Vick, who obviously had his own off-the-field interests that Falcons fans wish would have just been fashion, offered the perspective of an NFL quarterback. So, there was that.

But at the same time, it was beyond strange for Vick to take issue with Newton’s ME FIRST outfits when Vick was the one who spent years in prison during the prime of his career because he was involved in a dogfighting ring.

It’s not like Vick was putting football first there, and it’s unfair of Vick to say that Newton’s clothing is a reflection of a poor leadership approach.

Just a weird take all around from the wrong person to deliver it.
