0 3

Good morning, Mets fans!

Carlos Mendoza said Monday that Kodai Senga did not throw his scheduled bullpen session because he was experiencing tricep tightness. Mendoza said the concern level is low with Senga, and they expect the right-hander to throw a bullpen session at the end of this week. Senga is eligible to come off the injured list on May 27.

Tylor Megill allowed four hits and three runs (two earned), striking out seven in his return to the Mets’ rotation, but the Mets’ lineup didn’t get a single hit against the Cleveland bullpen in a 3-1 loss in their series opener at Progressive Field. Tomás Nido‘s solo homer provided the Mets with their lone run, and Francisco Lindor took an 0-f0r-4 in his first game back in Cleveland.

The Mets will look to get even with the Guardians as they send Adrian Houser (0-3, 7.44 ERA) to the mound against former Met Carlos Carrasco (2-4, 5.16 ERA). Houser was removed from the starting rotation following his start on May 2. First pitch is scheduled for 6:10 p.m.

Prior to Monday’s game, the Mets optioned right-hander Grant Hartwig to Triple-A Syracuse to clear room on the roster for Megill. They also traded righty Yohan Ramírez to the Dodgers for cash considerations. The Mets designated Ramírez for assignment for the second time this season on May 15. Additionally, the Mets released Joey Wendle, whom they also designated for assignment last week.

Trayce Thompson was named the Eastern League Player of the Week for his dominant performance for Triple-A Syracuse. Thompson went 9-for-22 and crushed six homers, including three in one game last Friday.

Red Sox hurler Garrett Whitlock has ligament damage in his elbow and may require surgery. Whitlock was off to a promising start with a 1.96 ERA through four starts this year and had been rehabbing from an oblique injury sustained in April.

Dodgers right-hander Emmet Sheehan told reporters on Monday that he underwent the hybrid Tommy John surgery procedure with an internal brace added to the new ligament. Sheehan said he had a partial tear and mentioned that he dealt with an oblique injury in addition to the elbow troubles.

Mariners outfielder Sam Haggerty was diagnosed with a torn Achilles and will miss the remainder of the season. Haggerty suffered the injury on May 18 when he crashed into an outfield wall while playing for Triple-A Tacoma.

The Guardians have called up outfielder Johnathan Rodríguez from Triple-A Columbus and designated Ramón Laureano for assignment. Rodríguez has an .838 OPS in 185 plate appearances for Columbus this season.
