Sports Briefs: Everett, Drummer in control as San Rafael softball shuts out Sonoma Valley
Sophia Everett had three hits and Thomara Drummer had 17 strikeouts as San Rafael outdueled Sonoma Valley, 2-0, in Thursday’s non-league softball action.
Everett led off the game with a single, stole two bases then came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Drummer. Angel Amesa doubled to drive in Luca Fondnazio, who got on base via a walk.
Drummer took over the game from there, allowing three hits over seven innings to pick up the victory for the Bulldogs (6-1).
• Ava Lee hit a two-run single in the sixth to get Tam (1-4) on the board in an eventual 9-2 loss to Analy on Thursday. Lee’s hit scored Charlotte Callagy and Zoe Pletcher, who reached base on a single and an error, respectively.
• San Marin (3-1, 2-0) defeated Novato 14-4 at home on Wednesday night.
Prep baseball
San Marin continued to bring the power at the plate in Thursday’s 12-1 victory over host Maria Carrillo. Anthony Scheppler doubled and drove in a run, and Sean McGrath was 3-for-5 with a double. Cole Chamberlain, Joey Cipollina, Tyler Keehn and Daniel Rolovich each banged out two hits. Keehn picked up the win on the mound as he struck out four batters and held Maria Carrillo to one hit through four innings.
College baseball
Marin’s Lucas Schaefer started the game with a solo homer and Wyatt Davis capped Thursday’s 16-6 win over Mendocino with a three-run homer in the seventh inning. Zach Coleman struck out 10 batters across seven innings to pick up his first win of the season.
Boys volleyball
Camden Franjieh had 23 kills and Shayan Shakeri had 23 kills as Terra Linda stayed unbeaten following a 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 victory against Marin Catholic on Wednesday night. Mac Sellers had six kills and six blocks for TL (4-0, 2-0) and Evan Brewster added eight blocks.
• The Branson School rallied past Marin Catholic, 17-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 15-13, on Thursday.
Girls lacrosse
Tam bounced back from Wednesday’s tough non-league loss to roll past Archie Williams, 17-1, in Thursday’s MCAL opener.
• The Branson School took home a 16-2 victory from Terra Linda on Thursday as the Bulls extended their unbeaten streak to seven games to start the season.

Terra Linda shut down the Branson School, 13-0, in Thursday’s MCAL opener.
Boys golf
The Bulls’ Aria Saluja shot an even par 36 at Peacock Gap to lead the Branson School past San Marin, 197-223. Jack Hilleboe brought in a 38 for Branson.
• Hayden Thill paced Tam with a 3-under 30 as the Red-tailed Hawks defeated Marin Catholic at Mill Valley Country Club, 178-196, on Thursday. Lincoln Sylvester led Marin Catholic with a 38.
• Marin Academy’s Charlie Wilhelm shot an even par 36 at Peacock Gap on Thursday to lead the Wildcats past rival San Domenico, 154-225. The Wildcats (3-0) got a 1-over 37 from Charlie Hansen and a personal-best 39 from Quinn McInerney. The Panthers (0-3) were led by Ben Nguyer with a 47.
• Brody Root shot a 1-under 35 at Marin Country Club on Thursday as Redwood beat Novato, 191-266. Novato’s Liam Everson and Carter Barranco tied at 49.
Boys tennis
The Branson School’s Chase Hoeveler hung on for a 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles over Johan Jacobs as the Bulls swept Archie Williams, 7-0. Two doubles matches went to super-tiebreakers during a competitive contest.
• A back-and-forth battle between Marin Catholic’s Charlie Miller and San Rafael’s Forrest Reilly at No. 1 singles took the spotlight as the host Wildcats swept the Bulldogs, 7-0, on Thursday. Miller emerged with the 7-6 (10), 6-2 win.
• San Domenico lost a tight 3-2 match against Bay on Thursday, getting wins at Nos. 1 and 3 singles from Toby Sadzeck and Parker Sadzeck, respectively.
Prep track & field
San Rafael resident Ellie McCuskey-Hay won three events for St. Ignatius in Wednesday’s meet against St. Francis. McCuskey-Hay, also a Marin Waves Track Club standout, took first place in the long jump (19 feet), the 100 meter (11.86 seconds) and as a member of the 4×100 relay team.
Prep swimming
Novato High’s boys and girls had the numbers on their sides as the Hornets beat the Branson School on Wednesday. Novato’s girls won 97-60, while the Novato boys won 127-26. Among the individual winners for Novato’s boys were: Emerson Wunderlich (100 freestyle, 100 backstroke), Ran Cohen (500 free), Jack Wien (50 free) and Alvan Liang (100 free). On the girls side, Novato winners were Anita Widney-Large (girls 200 free, 500 free) and Tessa Garvey Miller (100 breaststroke).
Branson’s Cameron Aryanpour won the 100 butterfly in 52.77 seconds and the 100 backstroke in 56.45 seconds, the third-fastest time in the 100 back in school history. Both times are North Coast Section consideration marks. The Bulls’ Eleanor Hoang won the 200 IM (2:32.88) and McKenzie Kwei won the 100 fly (1:04.4). Branson won the 200 medley relay (1:59.66) with a team of Maeve McAuley, Ashley Vela, Hoang and Kwei. Nate Johnson, one of three Branson boys in the meet, won the 50 free (25.46), and took second in the 100 back (1:04.46) and 100 fly (56.28).
• Marin Academy’s girls had a pair of double winners and swept the relays as the Wildcats (5-0) beat San Domenico 111-57, and International, 130-37, in a three-way meet Wednesday. Winnersfor the Wildcats were Gabby Reichley (200 free, 500 free), Ali Kosmowski (200 IM, 100 free), Brooke Bent (100 fly), Hannah Reichley (100 back), Caroline Starrett (100 breast) and Kelly Kurtzig (50 free). Meanwhile the Wildcats won the boys competition against San Domenico, 101-64, and International, 132-30, behind Ewan Smith, who won the 200 IM and 100 free. Other winners for Marin Academy were Schuyler Rewick (50 free) and Michael Yoder (200 free), along with the 200 free relay combination of Smith, Rewick, Yoder and Tucker Byrne.
