Celtics’ Derrick White Has Funny Response To Impressive Shooting Streak
Derrick White has struggled shooting the ball for the Boston Celtics this season, averaging the worst field-goal percentage (38.9 percent) and second-worst 3-point percentage (33.3 percent) of his career.
However, that hasn’t stopped him from making at least one 3-pointer in every game this season, extending his streak to 67 games with at least one 3-pointer made dating back to last year. That’s the second-longest active streak in the NBA.
When asked about it by Abby Chin prior to Monday’s game against the Detroit Pistons, White had a funny response.
“I did not know that, especially because I felt like I made zero threes for like the first two weeks of the year, so that’s kind of crazy,” White told Chin.
When asked how he’s maintained such a streak, White credited his practice and his teammates for creating open looks for him.
“I don’t know. I shoot a lot of threes, so that probably helps a lot,” the veteran guard said. “And just playing with really good players, that’ll make it easy for you.”
While White’s shooting has been disappointing this year, he’s still averaging a career-high 17.2 points per game. He’s also averaging personal bests in other categories, including assists, steals and blocks.
White will look to break out of his shooting funk tonight against the Pistons at home. He drilled six 3-pointers and scored 27 points the last time he faced them in late November, so hopefully he has a similar performance tonight.
