Glens Falls student arrested following alleged school shooting threats

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Glens Falls High School student has been arrested after allegedly making school shooting threats, according to the Glens Falls City School District. The district said there is no current "imminent threat" to the school.

The arrested student had allegedly made threats involving a school shooting on a third-party messaging platform over the summer, an announcement released by the district on Wednesday said. After being reported by another student on September 4, authorities immediately located the student and removed them from the building before they were arrested by Glens Falls Police.

A second involved student was also identified during the initial investigation, according to the district. Both students are now reportedly banned from school property, with notices sent out to each building and the District Safety Council briefed on the situation.

The Glens Falls City School District did not disclose specific details of the alleged threats, but described them as "significant" and "serious." A full investigation is reportedly underway by Glens Falls Police and other law enforcement agencies.

In the meantime, the district said they are reinforcing safety measures in school, including locking exterior doors at all schools during the school day and requiring all bags to be stored in student lockers or supervised spaces. All high school and middle school student will also continue to walk through weapon detection scanners when entering the building.

The school district urged students to tell a teacher, staff member, parent or other authority figure if they see or hear something suspicious. They may also use the Student Safety Tip Line to report any information. Counselors and psychologists are available for students who may need support following this incident.
