Man charged with murder in fatal shooting at Sunset Park block party

SUNSET PARK, Brooklyn (PIX11) --- A man was shot to death in the back after an argument during a block party in Brooklyn on Saturday night, police said.

Tony Caba, 39, is accused of killing 45-year-old Roberto Cuevas when shots rang out at a crowded block party near 57th Street and Fourth Avenue in Sunset Park at around 9:10 p.m., according to the NYPD.

Authorities said Caba and Cuevas got into a fight earlier in the night during the festivities. Caba was caught on surveillance video shooting the victim several times, including in the back, according to the criminal complaint.

Cuevas was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved, police said.

Caba, a Florida resident, was arrested shortly after the incident and allegedly had a loaded gun on him, prosecutors said. He was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Caba is being held without bail following his arraignment on Monday.

The shooting was one of many violent incidents citywide over the weekend, including a triple shooting in Times Square on Saturday.

An 18-year-old female was grazed in neck, a 19-year-old man was shot in the right foot, and a 65-year-old man was shot in the left leg near 44th Street and Seventh Avenue, police said. They were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 17-year-old was arrested and charged in the shooting. The shooting may have started during a fight between the 17-year-old and the 19-year-old who was shot, police told PIX11 News.
