Alleged shooting in Rensselaerville under investigation
RENSSELAERVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Albany County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating an alleged shooting in Rensselaerville early Sunday morning. The incident reportedly occurred in the area of State Route 85 and Stewart Road.
Sheriff's deputies initially responded to 749 Sickle Hill Road in the town of Berne following reports of a person with a gunshot wound to the arm.
A subsequent investigation allegedly found that, at about 1:10 a.m., the victim was driving on State Route 85 when a person in another car intentionally shot multiple rounds from an assault rifle. According to the sheriff's office, several AR-15 rounds hit the victim's car and one round struck them in the arm.
The victim was taken to Albany Medical Center, where they remain in stable condition, authorities said. The suspect's car allegedly fled the scene but has been recovered in Massachusetts, Sheriff Craig Apple told NEWS10.
At this time, the Albany County Sheriff's Office reportedly believes there is no ongoing threat to the public. The case remains under active investigation and anyone with information into the incident is encouraged to contact the sheriff's office at (518) 765-2351.
