Shane Tamura didn't show up for work before NYC mass shooting: police

0 1

MIDTOWN, Manhattan (PIX11) – Shane Tamura, the 27-year-old man who shot and killed four people inside a Midtown office building, didn’t show up for his shift as a Las Vegas casino security guard on Sunday, according to authorities.

Police are now looking to speak to the person they believe purchased the lower part of the AR-15 Tamura used to ambush his victims. The NYPD is in Nevada to reconstruct Tamura's cross-country journey to 345 Park Ave.

Police said Tamura started firing shots around 7 p.m. on Monday, first gunning down NYPD Officer Didarul Islam. Wesley LePatner, a 44-year-old Blackstone executive, was hiding behind a pillar when she was struck by bullets and killed.

The investment firm said the death of the executive, wife and mother of two, has left her colleagues heartbroken.

Security guard Aland Etienne, 46, was also killed in the lobby while he was hiding behind a desk. The union representing security guards called him dedicated and said he took his job duties very seriously.

An NFL employee identified as Craig Clementi was struck by a ricocheting bullet, sparing his life. He called others to warn them about the gunman who would ascend the elevator to the 33rd floor.

Tamura intended to go to the offices of the NFL but ended up inside Rudin Management, where he shot and killed 2020 Cornell University graduate and employee Julia Hyman.

Mayor Eric Adams told PIX11 News that a three-page suicide note on Tamura read that he had a brain injury and he blamed the sports league. Tamura played football in high school but had no ties to the NFL.

The chief medical examiner’s office confirmed that Tamura’s autopsy will include additional testing of his brain to see if he has CTE.
