A gunman opened fire inside a Manhattan building Monday evening, killing four people.

Shane Devon Tamura allegedly opened fire inside the lobby before getting on an elevator to the 33rd floor. Police believe he shot and killed a New York City police officer as well as three others inside before killing himself.

The shooter, a former high school football player who intended to target the NFL headquarters office in the building, ended up on the 33rd floor by accident after he used a bank of elevators that didn't travel to the NFL office, NYC Mayor Eric Adams told CBS.

Julia Hyman

That floor is where Rudin Management Julia Hyman was working when she was shot and killed, according to People.

Hyman had been working for the real estate company, which managed the building at 345 Park Avenue where the shooting took place, for just nine months.

She graduated Cornell University with a degree from the Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration five years ago, according to her LinkedIn.

Hyman attended the Riverdale Country School in the Bronx before graduating college.

Aland Etienne

Security Guard Aland Etienne was in the building lobby when he was shot and killed, according to his union.

President of the 32BJ SEIU union Matty Pastreich called Etienne, 46, a "hero" and "a dedicated security officer who took his job duties extremely seriously."

"This tragedy speaks to the sacrifice of security officers who risk their lives every day to keep New Yorkers and our buildings safe," Pastreich said in a statement. "Every time a security officer puts on their uniform, they put their lives on the line. Their contributions to our city are essential, though often unappreciated. Aland Etienne is a New York hero. We will remember him as such."

Pastreich also said other union members were working in the building at the time of the shooting, and that the union is working with the New York Police Department in support of its investigation. The union is also offering counseling and support services to members.

Other Victims

Blackstone executive Wesley LePatner and off-duty NYPD officer Didarul Islam were also killed in the attack.

NFL employee Craig Clementi was seriously injured when he was struck in the back by a bullet, according to reporting by The Athletic. The bullet is believed to have hit him after ricocheting and he is in stable condition.

Adams said Tamura in a note left on his person blamed the NFL for what he felt was Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, or CTE.

"The note alluded to that he felt he had CTE, a known brain injury injury for those who participate in contact sports," he said. "He appeared to have blamed the NFL for his injury."
