Jonathan Joss, of King of the Hill, Killed In Shooting
Actor Jonathan Joss, known for roles on King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation, was shot dead on June 1, the San Antonio Police Department confirmed to Vulture. The 59-year-old is survived by his husband. A suspect, Sigfredo Alvarez Ceja, was detained and booked for murder. The source of the initial conflict is unknown, but the two were spotted arguing, according to TMZ. Ceja reportedly pulled out a gun and shot Joss before fleeing. Police were called just after 7 p.m., and Ceja was detained a block away from his home. Officers attempted to resuscitate Joss, but he was pronounced dead when EMS arrived. Ceja’s bond is set at $200,000, per TMZ. The investigation is ongoing.
Joss, who had Comanche and White Mountain Apache ancestry, per the Guardian, was born and raised in San Antonio. He’s best known for his voicework as John Redcorn on seasons two through 13 of King of the Hill. He assumed the role after the original voice actor, Victor Aaron, died in a car accident following the first season in 1996. Joss also played recurring character Chief Ken Hotate on Parks and Recreation. In January 2025, he lost his San Antonio home and two dogs in a fire, per San Antonio local news station KSAT 12. “I don’t have a job. I don’t have children,” Joss said at the time. “I don’t have a place to stay.” Two days before the shooting, he appeared unannounced at a King of the Hill cast reunion in Austin and did his final interview with a fan podcast.
