Troy man pleads guilty to assault in shooting case
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Troy man pleaded guilty in Rensselaer County Court on Wednesday to first-degree assault in connection with a shooting case from last June. The Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office said Jason Carter, 23, admitted to a Troy shooting that left a victim needing lifesaving brain surgery.
The DA's office said Carter confessed to shooting a pistol seven times from an alleyway into the side of a home at 138 6th Ave. on June 19, 2024. Officials said the victim was sitting on the couch with her fiancé when she was shot in the head by a bullet Carter fired.
Troy Police Department identified the shooter as Carter, locating and arresting him within 12 hours after the shooting. Carter is scheduled to be sentenced on July 16.
