COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA — Four-star shooting guard Brandon Bass Jr. is an absolute sniper and may just be the best shooter in the 2026 class.

Bass — the 6-foot-5, 185-pound guard out of Windermere Prep (FL) and the Austin Rivers SE Adidas 3SSB AAU program — had quite the weekend at 3SSB Session 2. Over four games in Iowa, Bass averaged 14.0 points and shot 12-of-21 (57.1 percent) from deep.

The most impressive performance for Bass over the weekend came in a 79-61 over Compton Magic, one of the best teams on the circuit. In that game, Bass scored 18 points and hit 4-of-7 shots from beyond the arc. He also recorded five rebounds and three assists.

Bass described his game rather simply.

“Shooter,” Bass said. “I can really do anything the coach wants me to do.”

The four-star guard gets his basketball abilities from his father, Brandon Bass Sr., who played 12 seasons in the NBA with some of the most historic teams in the league, including the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers. Bass Jr. particularly recalls when his father played with Kobe Bryant.

“I was little, but I still remember,” Bass said. “He taught me everything I know really.”

Bass Sr. played his college ball at LSU, and that’s a program heavily involved in Bass Jr.’s recruitment. Head coach Matt McMahon made the trip to Council Bluffs to watch him play, and Bass took an unofficial visit to Baton Rouge. He plans on taking an official visit to LSU soon, but no date has been set.

Bass has taken an official to Purdue and unofficial to UCF so far in his process. He also named Alabama, Florida State and USC as schools in contact. Alabama head coach Nate Oats made the trip out to Iowa to watch Bass play, along with Purdue’s Matt Painter and assistants from Florida State and UCF. His other offers include Illinois, Houston and Stanford.

Here’s the guard’s breakdown of some of the programs in contact most:

Alabama: “I haven’t taken an unofficial, but the coaches are just talking to me. We’re going to see if they’re going to offer me or anything, because I don’t have an offer from there yet.” Preston Murphy mainly in contact.

Florida State: “I haven’t taken a visit yet, but I had dinner with the coaches. The coach [Luke Loucks] was coaching in the NBA, so he has NBA experience with like the Warriors and stuff like that. So I feel like that’s good for me because that’s what the goal is, to get to the NBA of course.”

LSU: “My dad went there, so they’re recruiting me real hard. I go to the campus a lot. I’m just waiting for the official.”

Favorite part of unofficial visit: “I love everything basketball, but they took us to a football game and it was crazy, I’m not going to lie. It was crazy.”

Purdue: “Coach [Matt] Painter, he’s a real experienced coach. He told me what he wants me to do and I feel like I could fit into that program real well. But all the coaches, I like every single coach that’s recruiting me. But Purdue, I went on an official visit, so I really got to know their school, know their environment. So I liked that.”

Favorite part of official: “Definitely the game. They were playing Rutgers, and the environment, like the arena, it was packed. It was a crazy experience. Yeah, Mackey is crazy.”

UCF: “It’s close to home, so I mess with UCF. The coaches are recruiting me pretty hard, have taken me to a few games. It’s cool.”

USC: “So I took an unofficial to USC back in the summer. It was cool. I like the arena, the atmosphere. And it’s in LA, so you know I like LA. The beach. Close to the beach, and I like the beach. The coach [Eric Musselman], I’m real close with too. He’s funny. He’s just a cool guy to be around.”

Bass is looking for a few aspects out of a program to call home.

“A place that really loves me, loves my game, loves what I can do and what I bring to the table. And they like shooting threes,” Bass said with a laugh.

The four-star guard said his goals this summer include winning Adidas 3SSB and showing college coaches what he can bring to the table. Right now, he’s working on all aspects of his game from shooting, to driving, to playing defense. He’ll be returning to Windermere Prep for his senior season.

Bass is ranked the No. 57 overall prospect in the 2026 class by 247Sports. Fishing is one of his favorite hobbies, and ironically enough, he mainly catches large mouth bass.
